The other evening Lela and I visited Doug's large scale railway.  Situated in his backyard, the track covers quite an area.  There is a major yard with a Y followed by a lengthy mainline with passing sidings and trailing /facing switching.  In some locations there are bridging connections so you can reverse the trains to either bypass a blocked main or to enter a switching location keeping the switch as a trailing switch.
